I visited the TORTURE MUSEUM as well as the monument to honour the 10,000 people who died in the hands of the Khmer Rouge in Battambang in this temple. In total Cambodia lost almost a quarter of its population, over 2 million people, during this tragic war between 1975-1979. It was horrific to see how barbaric it was.
The killing cave in Battambang. During the Khmer Rouge war, they tortured people, and then dropped them in this cave, where most victims didn't die from the fall, but were left to suffer and die. Somehow I ended up all by myself in this cave, there was an area with skulls, but also a buddha statue. When I walked out, there was this magical light coming in, just what this cave needs. Only when I was outside other people arrived. It was a very special moment.
